I recently found a video on YouTube that discusses the concept of "Creepy". As a kid, I was always creeped out by clowns, Michael Jackson pictures, the dark, and the fear that somebody is behind me, even when there isn't. I was very interested in this video because I always wanted to understand the concept of "Creepy", because psychologically it is a burden on everybody, because everybody is creeped out by something. I began to question reality and the human mind. The guy in the video discusses how we are only scared of things, only because our mind wants us too. For example, when you see a clown, generally you are creeped out by it; but why? Well, when you see a person with a mask, you can't trust who they are. Psychologically, you are uncertain that the person wearing the mask would hurt you, or will not hurt you. Even when you are looking down from a high point or ledge, you reflexes stop you from jumping off or inching closer to see what it would be like to fall off. Your mind and reflexes battle it out until your reflexes usually win and tell you not to jump. I really found this interesting because I find myself doing this myself whenever I face situations such as this. I am glad I did this because I hope this will answer questions that you guys have yourself about the concept of "Creepy"

VSauce is excellent! A friend of mine actually showed me this same video. It's cool to look at the explanations behind why certain things in the world make you feel a certain way. If you understand what makes things creepy, you can recreate creepy!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite VSauce video is The Science of the Friendzone

I love the concept of having friends who can disagree with your ideas. I have one friend who's basically a Christian fundamentalist. We've decided we are not attracted to each other in a romantic way, him being too Christian, and me not being Christian enough (actually I'm not even religious). Still, we have amazing conversations and we broaden each other's views.
Keep watching VSauce! It makes you smart!
This is actually really interesting to me; the science of fear is one of my favorite subjects. I know that sounds really creepy, but it's true. Just in this last week, I was watching a documentary on the History Channel about why people are afraid of the dark, which is quite interesting, to be sure, but this actually has about as much information as that two-hour documentary, and presents that information in a logical, straightforward, easily comprehensible way that anybody surfing the net could understand. I agree with Ellen that this channel obviously has a lot of great information. This was certainly a good use of my time, and I liked the video in general. Thanks for posting!
